WWE "Armageddon" - SmackDown™ Only Pay-Per-View

Location: Richmond, Virginia

by "Rockin" Robin Drodge

Event Date:  December 17, 2006

Match Number One - An Inferno Match:  Kane vs. Montel Vantavious Porter (MVP).  The rule for this match was that fire would surround the ring and the first superstar to set their opponent on fire would win the match.  This match was all right.  The ending saw MVP get his back burnt, therefore this resulted in Kane winning the match.

Match Number Two - WWE Tag Team Championship Four Team Ladder Match.  WWE Tag Team Champions, Paul London and Brian Kendrick, vs. William Regal and Dave Taylor, vs. Mercury, Nitro and Melina (MNM), vs. Matt and the Intercontinental Champion, Jeff (The Hardy’s).  The first Team to climb the ladder and pull down the tag team titles would win the match and the WWE Tag Team Championship.  This was a very good match.  The ending came when Paul London climbed the ladder and pulled down the tag team titles to win the match to retain the Championship for his Team.

Match Number Three - The Boogeyman vs. The Miz.  This match was all right.  The Boogeyman ended up pinning the Miz to win the match.

Match Number Four - United States Championship.  United States Champion, Chris Benoit vs. Chavo Guerrero (with Vickie Guerrero in his corner).  This match was all right.  The ending came when Chris Benoit applied the Sharpshooter on Chavo Guerrero to make him tap out to the move to retain his Championship.

Match Number Five - WWE Cruiserweight Championship.  WWE Cruiserweight Champion, Gregory Helms vs. Jimmy Wang Yang.  This match was all right.  The ending came when Gregory Helms pinned Jimmy Wang Yang to retain his Championship.

Match Number Six - A Last Ride Match.  The Undertaker vs. Mr. Kennedy.  The rule for this match was the first Superstar to place their opponent into the Hearse, close the door, and then drive it out of the arena would win the match.  The ending came when The Undertaker hit Mr. Kennedy with a choke slam on top of the Hearse and then followed up with the tombstone before placing Mr. Kennedy into the Hearse.  He then closed the door and drove it out of the arena to win the match.

Match Number Seven - The Main Event.  WWE Champion John Cena, and The World Heavyweight Champion Batista vs. King Booker (with Queen Sharmell in his corner) and Finlay.  This match was all right.  The ending came when Batista hit the Batista Bomb on King Booker to pick up the pin-fall victory for his Team.

Some additional comments regarding Armageddon.

There was no announcement of how many fans were in attendance, so I can only assume that this Pay-Per-View was not sold out.

The WWE Tag Team Championship match was originally scheduled to be Paul London and Brian Kendrick taking on William Regal and Dave Taylor, but for whatever reason the WWE decided to make it a four-team ladder match.  Joey Mercury injured himself in the ladder match when the ladder struck his face resulting in him having to be taken out of the match and rushed to the hospital.
