WWE Backlash  Pay-Per-View

Location:  Philips Arena, Atlanta, Georgia

by "Rockin" Robin Drodge

Event Date:  April 29, 2007

Match number one - (RAW).  World Tag-Team Championship.

World Tag-Team Champions, Matt and Jeff (The Hardy’s) vs. Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch.  This match was all right.  The ending came when The Hardy’s hit the twist-of-fate on Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch, which was then followed-up with the Swanton Bomb to pick up the pin-fall victory.  The Hardy’s are still the World Tag-Team Champions.

Match number two - (RAW).  WWE Women's Championship.

WWE Women's Champion Melina vs. Mickie James. This match was all right. The ending came when Melina hit a reverse DDT on Mickie James to pick up the pin-fall victory to retain her Championship.

Match number three - (SmackDown).  United States Championship.

United States Champion Chris Benoit vs. Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP). This match was all right. The ending came when Chris Benoit rolled MVP up into a small package to pick up the pin-fall victory to retain his Championship

Match number four - (ECW).  ECW World Championship, Three On One Handicap Match.

ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley vs. Umaga (with Armando Estrada in his corner), Shane McMahon and Vince McMahon. This match was all right. The ending came when Umaga hit a second splash from off the top rope; then Vince McMahon tagged himself in and went for the cover on Bobby Lashley in which he picked up the Pin-fall victory to become the new ECW World Champion.

Match number five - (SmackDown).  Last Man Standing World Heavyweight Championship Match.

World Heavyweight Champion, The Undertaker vs. Batista. This match was all right. The ending came when both The Undertaker and Batista went outside the ring to where the Backlash set was set up. Batista hit a spear on The Undertaker and both Superstars were down for the 10 count. Therefore, the match was declared a draw. As a result of the draw, The Undertaker is still the World Heavyweight Champion.

Match number six - (RAW).  The Main Event. WWE Championship Fatal Four-Way Match.

WWE Champion John Cena vs. Edge, Shawn Michaels and Randy Orton. This match was all right. The ending came when Randy Orton attempted to hit the RKO, however this did not happen, instead Edge hit him with a spear. Once Edge hit the spear on Randy Orton, John Cena hit the FU on Edge. Then Shawn Michaels followed this up with the Sweet Chin Music to John Cena, in that Cena fell on top of Orton where he picked up the pin-fall victory to retain his Championship.

Some additional comments about Backlash™.

This Pay-Per-View was sold out, but I don't think the number of fans in attendance was announced. I think once the WWE decided to make all their future Pay-Per-Views all Brands, instead of separate Brands, they need to unify some of their Titles. Right now they have too many Titles and all the matches at Backlash were Championship Matches, so in my opinion they need to reduce the number of Belts they have at this time.
