The Great American Bash, SmackDown Pay-Per-View

Location:  Conseco Fieldhouse, Indianapolis, Indiana

by "Rockin" Robin Drodge

Event Date:  July 23, 2006

Match number one - WWE Tag Team Championship. WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London and Brian Kendrick vs. The Pitbulls (Kid Kash and Jamie Noble).  This was the opening match for The Great American Bash.  It was very good.  The ending saw Brian Kendrick hit a Sunset Flip on Kid Kash to pick up the pin-fall for his team to retain their Championship.  SmackDown General Manager, Theodore Long, came out and announced that Bobby Lashley would be unable to compete in the scheduled Triple-Threat match due to elevated enzymes of the liver.

So this led into Match number two - United States Champion Finlay vs. William Regal.  This match was all right.  The ending saw Finlay’s leprechaun give him William Regal’s boot that he pulled off.  This boot was used by Finlay to hit Regal in the head to pick up the pin-fall victory to retain his Championship.

Match number three - WWE Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms vs. Matt Hardy.  This was a non-title match.  This match was all right.  The ending saw Gregory Helms hit Matt Hardy face first on to a turnbuckle and then rolled him up to pick up the pin-fall victory.

Match number four - Punjabi Prison Match:  The Undertaker vs. the Big Show.  This match originally was supposed to be the Great Khali, but due to some kind of liver problem he was taken out of the match.  The rules were that there were two cages and there were four Referees on the outside of the ring and they would be in charge of opening four doors for the first cage.  There were no doors on the second cage.  Once a Superstar asked for a door to be opened, the Referee would open it.  However, it would only be for 60 seconds, and if a Superstar did not escape the cage in that time, the door would be locked and could not be opened again.  The only way that a Superstar could win the match is to escape both cages, and then they would be declared the winner.  This match was all right.  The ending saw The Undertaker escape both of the cages before the Big Show.  Therefore, The Undertaker was declared the winner.

Match number five - Fatal Four-Way Diva Bra and Panties match.  Ashley vs. Kristal vs. Jillian Hall and Michelle McCool.  The rule for this match was the first person to strip her opponent down to their bra and panties would win the contest.  Ashley stripped Kristal’s bra and panties down so she was declared the winner.

Match number six - Batista vs. Mr. Kennedy.  This match was all right.  The ending saw Batista use his boot to choke Mr. Kennedy in the corner.  This led to Batista being disqualified.  As a result of a disqualification, the winner of the match is Mr. Kennedy.

Match number seven - The Main Event - World Championship.  World Champion Rey Mysterio vs. King Booker with Queen Sharmell in his corner.  This match was very good.  The ending saw the Referee get knocked down and King Booker went to use a steel chair to hit Rey Mysterio with, however this did not happen.  This led to Chavo Guerrero coming down to the ring and picking up the steel chair.  It appeared that he was going to hit King Booker with the chair, however he hit Rey instead.  This resulted in King Booker pinning Rey Mysterio.  The winner of the match and new World Champion, King Booker.

A comment regarding The Great American Bash™.

There was no announcement of how many fans were in attendance for the Pay-Per-View, so I can only assume that the Pay-Per-View was not sold out.
