WWE "No Way Out" - SmackDown Pay-Per-View

Location:  1st Mariner Arena, Baltimore, Maryland

by "Rockin" Robin Drodge

Event Date:  February 19, 2006

Match number one - WWECruiserweight Championship:  WWE Cruiserweight Champion, Gregory Helms, Vs. Kid Kash, Funaki, Scotty 2 Hotty, Nunzio, Brian Kendrick, Paul London, Psicosis and Super Crazy.  This was the opening match for “No Way Out”.  The rules for this match were the following:  All Cruiserweights would wrestle in the ring at the same time and the first Superstar to pick up a pin-fall or a submission would win the Match and the Cruiserweight Championship.  The match was all right.  The ending saw Gregory Helms pick up the pin-fall when he pinned Super Crazy, therefore Gregory Helms retained his Championship.  After this match, Finlay was complaining to Kristal that he did not have a fight for tonight, so if he did not have a fight he was going to bring a fight.  So he picked up Kristal and brought her to the ring.  It appeared that he was going to fight her but Bobby Lashley came out to the ring and started to wrestle him.  Then John “Bradshaw” Layfield (JBL) came out, both him and Lashley started to wrestle; which led into match Number Two for the night.

Match Number Two - This match was all right.  The ending saw Finlay get involved and hit Bobby Lashley with some kind of foreign object, in which JBL followed up with the Clothesline From Hell to pick up the pin-fall victory.  After this match ended, it was announced that there was a special guest in the arena, Batista made his way to the ring.  He got on the mike and said that he was here to watch the World Heavyweight Championship match and he missed being in the ring and that sooner than later he would be back and the World Heavyweight Championship would be his again.

Match Number Three - Non-title match.  WWE Tag Team Champions, Mercury, Nitro and Melina (MNM) Vs. Matt Hardy and a partner of his choice.  The partner was Tatanka.  The ending saw Matt Hardy hit the Twist Of Fate to pick up the pin-fall victory for his team.

Match Number Four - United States Championship:  United States Champion, Booker T. (with Sharmell in his corner) Vs. Chris Benoit.  Booker announced that he was going to forfeit the United States Championship so he started to leave the ring.  Sharmell got on the mike and blamed Chris Benoit for making Booker forfeit the United States Championship.  She slapped Benoit in the face three times, and on the third slap Booker attacked Benoit from behind, so then they were both in the ring and the match started.  This match was all right.  The ending saw Benoit apply the Sharpshooter and then changed it into the Crippler Crossface to make Booker tap out to the move to become the new United States Champion.  Afterwards, in the back, several people congratulated Benoit on his victory, along with Chavo and Vickie Guerrero.  This led to match Number Five.

Match Number Five - Rey Mysterio Vs. Randy Orton.  This match was for Rey Mysterio’s Wrestlemania title shot that he won at the Royal Rumble.  This match was all right.  The ending saw Rey try to hit the 619 but Randy moved out of the way and rolled up Rey Mysterio, and with his feet on the ropes picked up the pin-fall victory; which means Randy Orton now will be wrestling for the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania 22.

Match Number Six - The Main Event.  World Heavyweight Championship:  World Heavyweight Champion, Kurt Angle, Vs. The Undertaker.  This match was all right.  Kurt Angle applied the ankle lock on the Undertaker several times, however The Undertaker managed to get out of the hold.  The ending saw The Undertaker lock on the triangle choke and while it appeared that Angle was out, he rolled over and pinned The Undertaker’s shoulders to the mat to retain his Championship.

Some additional comments regarding "No Way Out".

There was no announcement of how many fans were in attendance, so I assume that this Pay-Per-View was a sell-out.

I was surprised that Batista was at "No Way Out"; I am assuming he will soon be back from his Triceps injury.

I was a little surprised that Tatanka was Matt Hardy’s tag team partner.  I expected it would be Road Warrior Animal.

In the Rey Mysterio/Randy Orton match, it appeared that maybe Rey might win the match and go to Wrestlemania to wrestle for the World Heavyweight Championship in the memory of Eddie Guerrero, but this did not happen.  I am under the impression because they did not announce that Randy Orton would be wrestling for the World Heavyweight Championship, that the match at Wrestlemania could be a triple threat match for the World Title with Kurt Angle, Rey and Randy Orton, but I could be wrong.  I think due to the fact that Eddie’s family being at the Pay-Per-View in support of Rey Mysterio, sometime this year he will win the World Title.
