WWE "Vengeance" Pay-Per-View

Location: The Toyota Center, Houston, Texas

by "Rockin" Robin Drodge

Event Date:  June 24, 2007

Match number one - (RAW).  World Tag Team Championship:

World Tag Team Champions - Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch, vs. Matt and Jeff (The Hardy’s).  This match was all right.  The ending came when Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch picked up the pin-fall victory to retain their Championship.

Match number two - (SmackDown).  WWE Cruiserweight Championship:

WWE Cruiserweight Champion, Chavo Guerrero vs. Jimmy Wang Yang.  This match was all right.  The ending came when Chavo Guerrero hit the Frog Splash from off the top rope to pick up the pin-fall victory to retain his Championship.

Match number three - (ECW).  ECW World Championship:

C.M. Punk vs. Johnny Nitro.  The winner of this match would become the new ECW World Champion.  This match was all right.  The ending came when Johnny Nitro hit a Neckbreaker on C.M. Punk to pick up the pin-fall victory to become the new ECW World Champion.

Match number four - (RAW).  Intercontinental Championship:

Intercontinental Champion, Santino Marella vs. Umaga.  This match was all right.  The ending came when Umaga got himself disqualified.  Therefore, the winner of the match as a result of a disqualification and still the Intercontinental Champion is Santino Marella.

Match number five - (SmackDown).  United States Championship:

United States Champion, Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP) vs. Ric Flair.  This match was all right.  The ending came when MVP hit the Playmaker to pick up the pin-fall victory to retain his Championship.

Match number six - (SmackDown).  WWE Tag Team Championship:

WWE Tag Team Champions, Deuce and Domino (with Cherry in their corner) vs. Sgt. Slaughter and “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka.  This match was all right.  The ending came when “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka hit a high cross body from off the top rope.  However, Deuce rolled through and picked up the pin-fall victory for his team to retain their Championship.

Match number seven - (SmackDown).  World Heavyweight Championship:

World Heavyweight Champion, Edge vs. Batista.  This match was all right.  The ending came when Edge attempted to hit Batista with a Spear, however it got reversed.  Batista hit Edge with a Spear, which resulted in Edge hitting Batista with a Low Blow to get himself disqualified.  Afterwards, Theodore Long came out and announced that the Match would continue.  Once the match restarted, Edge was sent to the outside of the ring where Batista was.  Batista delivered a Batista Bomb from outside of the ring and then threw Edge back into the ring.  Before Batista could get inside the ring, the Referee got to a count of 10, which meant Batista had been counted out.  Therefore, Edge is still the World Heavyweight Champion.

Match number eight - (RAW).  WWE Women’s Championship:

WWE Women’s Champion, Melina vs. Candice Michelle.  This match was all right.  The ending came when Candice Michelle hit Melina with a Spinning Kick to pick up the pin-fall victory to become the new WWE Women’s Champion.

Match number nine - (RAW).  The Main Event - WWE Championship Challenge:

WWE Champion, John Cena vs. Bobby Lashley, vs. King Booker (with Queen Sharmell in his corner), vs. Randy Orton and Mick Foley.  This match was all right.  The ending came when John Cena hit the FU on Mick Foley to pick up the pin-fall victory to retain his Championship.

Some additional comments regarding Vengeance.

There was no announcement of how many fans were in attendance, even though the WWE said that this Pay-Per-View was sold out; I am not really sure about that.

Chris Benoit was scheduled to wrestle C.M. Punk to crown a new ECW World Champion, but because of personal issues he did not wrestle and Johnny Nitro was his replacement.  It appeared C.M. Punk would be the new ECW Champion, but instead Johnny Nitro won the match.  I was very happy for him.  Winning this match was probably a good thing for him; hopefully the WWE continues the push because, in my opinion, Nitro could become a big star in the making if only he has the opportunity to hold on to the Championship for awhile.  It will be interesting to know what the WWE has in store for him in the near future.

It was great that “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka was able to get in the ring and work with his son Deuce in the WWE Tag Team Championship match.

I was a little surprised Candice Michelle won the Women’s Championship, in that for the last little while on TV, Melina has been jobbing to Candice.  Tonight, I thought Melina would finally get a measure of revenge in retaining the Women’s Championship and show that Candice could not defeat her when it came to putting the Title on the line.
